Knitting in Passing

  • I shared two recent stories about meeting other knitters/talking about knitting in the wild. I met a lovely woman named Joanne at her consignment shop. She was knitting when Mom was wandering around the store so of course she struck up a conversation. Turns out, Joanne also spins too! We had a lovely chat and Mom took a photo of us.
  • I was recently waiting for my car to get it’s oil changed when a kind.79 year old woman asked about my knitting and we ended up chatting for an hour. We talked about restoration of old Victorian in my home town where she owns a condo now.

Lots of players are talking about double-dipping in other make-alongs. A great thing about the PSP is that you can work on whatever you want so it is easy to have one project count for both PSP points and another MAL!

  • Hikesandbikes is planning an epic shawl project (the Genesis Shawl- check out her Ravelry Project Page) for the Yarniacs podcast’s self-indulgent make along. Find details in their Ravelry group.
  • Many many players are planning to participate in PSP-sponsor Imagined Landscapes’ snow matter what December mystery gnome knit along. There’s lots of chatter on the boards about what colors folks plan to use.
  • There’s also some talk of the Indie Gift Along which is hosted on Ravelry. Several PSP sponsors are participating so this one is particularly ripe for double-dipping!
  • Some players are also planning on joining Andrea Mowry’s instafriends KAL
  • Also on the boards there is lots of chatter about holiday movies, including Emmet Otter’s Jug Band. That is a new to me Jim Henson movie that I definitely plan to check out!

Events

  • THANK YOU to everyone who donated handknit/crocheted items for adult and youth homeless in Massachusetts. They set up tables on Thanksgiving and put all of the handmade items on the fence outside their church in Woburn center. Check out these beautiful photos.
  • I’ll be participating in Vlogmas again this year. Is there anything you especially want to see? Let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Check out previous years playlists:  Vlogmas 2022 Playlist & Vlogmas 2021 Playlist

Shana asked about any recent Savers adventures. Tune in for a story that’s more of a misadventure (spoiler alert- all ends well)

On a Happy Note

  • Vegas- pool day with sharks in the tank & dressing as the Sanderson sisters for the Gala.
  • Rhinebeck weekend. Great time with Mom, Liz and Riley. Liz did 100% of the driving and it saved me! I am so grateful. The 4 of us just got along so well and had so much fun. 2p meet-up. So many compliments on my sweaters- both Sat and Sun. Everyone loved Mom’s sweater too. Found buttons for her on Saturday.
  • Sing-a-long on the drive home from Rhinebeck.
  • Liz found Mom’s favorite blow up seat cushion when she dropped her fidget spinner under the seat and had to retrieve it!
  • Laura (lauraknitspa) brought her Abington Mitts to show me (Ravelry Project Page link)
  • I got to see our youngest niece and nephew- Gabriella & Zach when Dan and Oisin were over at their house putting in a new shed. We watched a Curious George Halloween Special that Gabriella was dying to show me, had a snack and read books in their tent before I had to go.
  • Dan & I attended a Clue (movie based on the board game) Party as Miss Scarlet & Mr. Green. After striking out at the thrift stores, I bought a dress on Amazon that was more perfect than I realized. Thanks to Mom, I had the perfect costume jewelry. Dan brought all sorts of props from home for the “weapons.” Fun was had by all.

  • Anita asked about: Ideas for color schemes for yarn choices- how to use variegated yarns to help blend different color schemes.
  • Shelly asked: “Do you have any tips or tricks on how to calculate the yards used in a project?”
    • Tip: Check Ravelry Project Pages & check the “All Helpful Projects” filter. Here’s the Ravelry link for helpful projects for this pattern. THis particular Ravelry project gives the cast on stitches and number of rows and says she 1 50g skein would have been enough “if I did a 40 round leg (ran out of the first skein when I had 10 rounds left on the foot of the second sock).”

On a Happy Note

  • Dinner with Gayle, Joanie, Mom and Dad. Gave Joanie gifts from Sedona and Gayle some new socks.
  • Old Dominion- took girls to arcade after then got a drink and something to eat with Jeff & Melissa
  • Brunch. Singing in the car with the girls. Garret’s hockey game
  • Apple picking! Bisque! Cider donuts!
  • Thanks to Patrons who talked about The Vow on HBO. Dan and I are fully hooked.
  • Pumpkin coffee: usually I have a few cups a year and I’m good, but this year its growing on me. They have a great one at the coffee shop at work, Marylous, and I even bought a container from Trader Joe’s that I enjoyed some of this week.
  • Cooler temps- they hit us fast this year. We went from hot and muggy to mornings that are 55 and crisp and days in the 60’s. I’m loving pulling on wool socks and a wool sweater to stave off the chill.
