About

My name is Jen. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to spend my time doing creative things– drawing, painting, knitting, scrapbooking, photography, jewelry making, and so many other things in between. I find that what makes me happiest is learning new things and sharing with others. To help fulfill that need, I started the Down Cellar Studio Podcast in 2012 to share my love for knitting and photography. I enjoy recording and sharing my crafty adventures with you via the podcast, my Instagram account and my Down Cellar Studio YouTube channel.

I am a knitter, crocheter, spinner, designer, podcaster, scrapbooker, amateur photographer and craft enthusiast. I knit all the time. Every day. I find knitting to be the most portable creative option and so while I do it the most [and its the focus of my podcast] its by no means the only creative outlet I use.

Boston Jen

I am a huge proponent of family. Mine means everything to me. I am a daughter, granddaughter, sister, girlfriend, auntie. You’ll hear about my family here. I hope you come to love them as much as I do. They’re pretty awesome!

I am a photographer.  The things that inspire me are the small details of life, the moments that make my heart happy. I see photography as a way to capture the essence, the feel, of those moments. My goal is to be able to quickly and seamlessly capture these moments while still fully living them.

I am a scrapbooker and memory keeper. I want to use my photos + words to save those things that are most precious to me.

I am a project manager at a major Boston hospital by day. I focus on projects that improve quality, efficiency and communication. I love that I get to do something different every day. I can be creative in my job but nothing beats knitting on a sock as I wait for the train on the way home to really satisfy that creative urge.

What can you expect to find here?

I can’t answer that for you in so many words. This blog, like the very brain from which its contents are dispensed, may seem to be a little all over the place.  I hope that works for you. What I can promise you is that everything you find here is a reflection of who I really am and the things I value:

  • creativity
  • learning, sharing & evolving
  • efficiency
  • sustainability
  • relationships/ with each other, with the earth
  • living a life that is meaningful

I believe that everyone should live a creative life of continued learning. I am striving to live this every day and hope that your being a part of this will also enrich your life!

GoodReader is an app for iOS (not available for Android unfortunately). It allows you to store your PDFs and then make notes on them like you would on paper but without having to carry around all of your patterns on paper and risk losing them (or spilling coffee on them!)

Jen, I am going to be in Boston (after going up to Portland to see Bristol Ivy) on June 10th through the 14th! Would you be interested in meeting, taking a look at our yarns, talking about the yarn business and dyeing?
Let me know via email-I think it would be tons of fun if it works out!
